It has been a horrendous time for all of us and we are all probably trying to make sense out of what is happening, while Donald Trump celebrates what he sees as a victory, but it is a victory only for him and his billionaire supporters. There have been many like Donald Trump throughout the years in these United States and they have been supported by the people we think of as our heroes and wonderful citizens working hard for all of us to thrive.
Because I have lived so long, I have seen what is happening today. It has happened before and each time it has been horrendous, vicious, extremely painful with blame pushed onto the people experiencing the pain – the displacement – the loss of everything they worked for. It is a study in humanity which is repeated over and over again with little change.
One day, at the end of September, we went into the Court House and there was no one outside. Not one soul. When we dropped off the papers we were there to deliver and walked out it was an unbelievable scene. I felt transported to the endings of slavery.
A very young, very attractive young womanm- not a slave – was being shoved to the ground by about five large white men. To say they were being cruel is an understatement. The men all had large scarves around their head, hiding their faces, guns in their hands – long guns – and they were pushing and stomping this young woman to get her down onto the ground on her stomach. She is not the first to experience such lately and clearly won’t be the last.
I understood slavery in that moment more clearly than I have before. To the white men stomping, pulling, pushing this young woman into the grass, she was not human. They clealry did not see any reason to stop hurting her. They did not see nor care if they killed her in the process. They were free from any responsibility to treat her as though she could be hurt; they were free of feeling anything except the enjoyment they were getting and the power they were experiencing at being able to so freely let out their power over her which was providing them with whatever they needed to keep going and get more strength and so much more from her suffering . The fact that they were causing that suffering was clearly so good to them. People standing around were imploring them to stop and that apparently made it so much better to them that they continued and increased their kicking, stomping, pulling, hitting her with their guns.
With the group – with the same kind of scarf over her face – was a young woman – who got on top of this young girl’s back with all of her weight and hands, feet and legs helping to push her into the ground. The woman on the grass was screaming for help – lots of people were now standing around including the guards from inside the Court House.l. When I asked why they didn’t stop this they said they had been told to stay out of it.
One man was taping what was happening with his telephone. At that point, I decided as one who hates mobile phones and does not carry one – to never be without my mobil phone in case something like this needs to be taped.
I was looking at what AI is causing around the world.
We are in a time like the one just before industrialization came in. As its history has been written, the horrible things suffered by the “excess” people is not written about in those terms. We talk about it in terms of a “depression” and we have other terms worse, none of which outlines what I saw that day on the Court House lawn. That is the “depression” of AI and the role it takes away from humans.
In the days before we acknowledged Industrialization and how few people were needed compared to before the machines came into being, millions of human beings must have suffered so a few could thrive. There was a need to get rid of many people because industrialization with its machines and more made it possible to do more with fewer people and that is what happened. Right before our eyes I was witnessing how the United States was going about getting rid of many people because the AI coming in needed fewer workers and we had let in many immigrants because they were usually in desperate straights leaving countries doing horrible things to them, whereas we were much larger with more money and ability to have much and needed these fleeing other problems into the United States.
We are just now beginning to destroy our immigrant community to reduce it and even including some local citizens to a point where companies could function with lesser overhead and the excess would be gone. Before this, we needed to destroy our slave communities because the work they were needed for and had been enslaved to carry out was no longer there needing so many people to keep others going at a much higher, comfortable, work-free existence. The progeny of many slaves are still around reaching high level in this community and workforce and to show their history, Donald Trump and his people are doing everything they can to take down as many of those, who have risen from their parents, grandparents, great-grandparents labor as slaves – to take them down to the level of beggars for penniesl.
As the woman screamed, I asked her name and if she had a lawyer – screaming overl the others standing around. She scrteamed out her name and the name of her lawyer.
I went back into the Court House and was directed to where trials were held to see if I could find her lawyer who she said was inside waiting for her.
I met three lawyers sitting on a bench on my way to the trial court and asked if they knew what was happening outside and what could they do. I told them the woman’s lawyers name and asked if they knew him. They did and had already texted him to let him know the condition in which one of his clients was struggling and being beaten.
When I came from inside the Court House the woman had been freed, the men and one woman who held her in such horrendous conditions were gone and she was in bad shape trying to telk to a young man who we assumed was a reporter. What struck me as I passed her was – if she had done some horrendous act which caused all of those hitting, stomping, treating her so badly to push her into the grass, jump on top of her and more – why were they now gone and she was standing free – in bad shape – but not taken away with the others trying to destroy her. If this was about some wrong she had done to be treated so badly they would not have left without her – so exactly what was that about? Their coffee break during which they needed that kind of blood rush?
We came home and it took quite awhile before we were able to do anything. The pain of those moments was horrible.
That took us back to the time when horrific things happened to those working and trying to make a living as the United States worked to industrialized itself and get rid of excess laborers. People pushed out of their homes with no place to go because they could no longer pay the bills;children pushed out of school because parents were trying to relocate so they could continue their lives; the violence that happened caused by such major upheavels which everyone experienced in one form or another and here it was againl. We are at the beginnings of such a time which will certainly get worse and get blamed on the people suffering from forced displacement so billionaire investors making it big could make even more.
The very beginnings of that time was also the ending of slavery. One didn’t need slaves anymore if machines could do the same thing costiing much less than the cost of feeding, housing and having people over slaves to keep them working and in line so they could work another day.
This kind of structure is what we created in these United States from the beginning and now it has reached the point of horrendously negatively affecting what will be millions of people before society reaches a level where many are no longer alive – or have disappeared into some hole where most of society cannot see them or care about them and the rest having found a place where they have acquired the tools and talents to be useful in this new society until we reach the point of yet another “step up”.
This is not how history is written. These are not the connections made by most historians. Those who do make these connections and have the temerity to write about them don’t last long. They quickly die, are killed, wind up in an accident or just get thrown by the wayside if it is found that can happen without them being so set in their message that they don’t go quietly into that very dark, dangerous night.
The killing, destruction, deportation and more of immigrants will continue until the numbers reach what the society needs to carry on. They will be pushed out even with United States citizens who resist and are of more harm than pushing forward this new society. It will be very ugly, bloody and beyond belief, but it has happened before and will probably happen again when new discoveries and the need arises.
